NE Portland strip mall goes up in flames Tuesday morning

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Fire ripped through a Northeast Portland strip mall early Tuesday morning, authorities said.

According to Portland Fire & Rescue, crews responded to the blaze just before 2 a.m. which eventually ramped up to third alarm.

Authorities said that by 3 a.m. the entire building was engulfed and nearby homes had to be evacuated.

Crews were eventually able to knock down the flames with help from elevated water streams.

Shortly after 4 a.m., the fire was under control authorities said, but the building was a complete loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
