NE Ohio jail inmate dies in ‘medical emergency’

MANSFIELD, Ohio (WJW) — An inmate at the Richland County Jail died following what authorities called a “medical emergency.”

At about 9 a.m. on Sunday, corrections and medical workers responded to a housing unit to assist inmate Candice Crose, according to a statement from sheriff’s Capt. Chris Blunk, jail administrator.

Northwestern Local Schools superintendent placed on leave pending investigation

“Life-saving measures were performed by the staff but unfortunately Crose died at the hospital shortly after arriving,” it reads.

An investigation has started, as is customary, according to the statement.

The jail, opened in 2008, was designed to house up to 266 inmates, according to the county’s website.
