NC State basketball’s leading scorer, Terquavion Smith, ‘all the way in’ for NBA Draft

N.C. State’s leading scorer is officially jumping into NBA waters.

Terquavion Smith announced Tuesday he is leaving the Wolfpack after his second season and entering the NBA Draft.

“I’m forgoing my college eligibility and going all the way in,” Smith told ESPN. “I’m thankful for everything the N.C. State coaching staff and fans have done for me. This is the right decision for me to take care of my family.”

Smith is rated the No. 30 prospect in the latest ESPN 100. He was named to the All-ACC Second Team after leading the Wolfpack in scoring (17.9 points), assists (4.1) and steals (1.5).

Smith finished as the second leading scorer in the ACC, and was also second in the league with 91 made 3-pointers.

“I showed a lot of different things this year,” Smith said. “Teams wanted to see me be more of a point guard, making the right play, making the right decisions. They wanted to see me improve my finishing, and I increased that. I showed I can be a leader.”

Smith was considering entering the NBA Draft after his freshman season a year ago, choosing to participate in the NBA Combine in Chicago. But he ultimately withdrew his name from the draft process. He said last year he “just (wanted) one more season to get everything right and be a college student.”
