NC Senate to debate its budget proposal next week

NC Senate's budget likely won't contain details of tax plan when debated next week

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- The North Carolina Senate is getting ready to release its two-year spending plan for state government, but Republicans are unlikely to include details about the party's tax overhaul plan.

Senate leader Phil Berger says the chamber will debate the budget next week. Senate Republicans met privately Thursday morning to discuss the proposal.

Senate GOP leaders rolled out a tax plan framework last week that would reduce income tax rates and expand greatly the number of services subject to sales tax.

Berger told reporters the Senate's tax plan is still being worked on and doesn't expect in in the budget. He says the budget will assume less tax revenues.

The House will debate and vote on its own budget after the Senate approves its version.
