RALEIGH, N.C. (WGHP) — Two of the most successful YouTubers on the platform will cover the cost for a future student to attend their North Carolina alma mater.

On Wednesday, “Good Mythical Morning” co-hosts and Mythical founders Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal established a full-ride, two-year scholarship at North Carolina State University called “The Rhett & Link Engineering Innovation Scholarship Fund.”

According to a news release from the university, the scholarship will be available to third- and fourth-year engineering students “who demonstrate commitment to innovation and creativity in engineering, sciences, the arts, entertainment or the intersection of these disciplines.”

One student will hold the scholarship for two years, and the creators intend for this scholarship to help the recipient cultivate their “mythicality,” which the duo defines as “a desire to learn and do new things, an appreciation of originality and a tendency to not take yourself too seriously.”

The university has not yet released details on how to apply for the scholarship.

Rhett and Link met during detention on the first day of school at Buies Creek Elementary School in Buies Creek, North Carolina. Both would later attend NC State University where Rhett graduated with a degree in civil engineering in 2000 and Link graduated with a degree in industrial engineering in 2001.

The “Internetainers” — who also coined the term “Internetainer” — launched their self-titled YouTube channel in 2006. Today, the channel has more than 5 million subscribers.

Their Good Mythical Morning channel, now in its 11th year, has 18.6 million subscribers. The weekday variety show won “Show of the Year” at the Streamy Awards in 2019 and 2022.

In addition to the main channel and GMM, Mythical also runs Good Mythical MORE with more than 4 million subscribers, Mythical Kitchen with more than 3 million subscribers and their video podcast Earbiscuits with more than 500,000 subscribers.

According to Mythical, the brand has collectively amassed 12 billion lifetime views.

According to Forbes, Rhett and Link were the second top social media creators of 2023 having earned about $35 million. The number one spot went to fellow North Carolinian Jimmy Donaldson, better known as MrBeast, who earned $82 million.
