NC Central student arrested in connection to shooting that sparked campus lockdown, police say

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – A student at North Carolina Central University is facing charges in connection to a shooting last week that sparked a lockdown on campus, police said.

On April 2, police said one student was taken to Duke University Hospital after they were shot inside Lawson Street Residence Hall at around 10:15 p.m. University officials locked down campus for a few hours before lifting the lockdown around 12:30 a.m.

NCCU police said a student named Eric Randall was charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery and conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon.

“Additional arrests related to this incident are forthcoming, and further details will be provided to the campus community as they become available,” according to a news release from NCCU officials sent out on Wednesday evening. “We appreciate your patience as NCCU Police works to resolve this case. Ensuring the safety and well-being of our community remains our top priority.”

NCCU police said the victim’s injuries were not considered life-threatening.
