NC Senate bill banning e-cigarette sales to minors heads for final passage on House floor
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- A bill banning sales of electronic cigarettes to minors in North Carolina is headed to the full House.
A judiciary committee approved a bill Wednesday outlawing the sale of the nicotine product to anyone under the age of 18. E-cigarettes emit a vapor that includes nicotine but without many of the harmful chemicals in tobacco smoke.
Health groups feared e-cigarettes would be freely available in locations where they're currently banned because the bill originally did not include them in the definition of tobacco products. The latest version of the bill includes them in the same category. With that change, the bill passed the committee unanimously.
The Senate passed the bill earlier this month. The bill would take effect in August if it is signed into law.
