NC to collect $1.3M in settlement with Pfizer over allegations it unlawfully promoted drugs
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina will collect $1.3 million under a national settlement with Pfizer Inc. over allegations the pharmaceutical company unlawfully promoted two of its drugs.
Attorney General Roy Cooper's office said Wednesday the settlement with North Carolina and 32 other states was reached to resolve allegations the drug maker used unfair and deceptive practices to promote its drugs Zyvox and Lyrica.
Lyrica is a blockbuster drug for fibromyalgia and other pain. Zyvox is an infections-fighting antibiotic.
Pfizer entered an agreement in principle on a settlement In October to pay about $43 million without admitting wrongdoing, but final agreements still had to be worked out.
Cooper's office said that under an additional settlement, Pfizer will pay $421,000 to the State Health Plan and $7,000 to the state prison system.
