NBC Goes Comedy Crazy
Let's get to the most important news first: NBC has renewed Parks & Recreation for a full season, not the truncated half-season it was recently rumored to be destined for. So phew. Well done, NBC. Now, moving on to everything else: NBC has lots of comedy shows all of a sudden!

Today they renewed P&R, Christina Applegate and Will Arnett's only mildly funny but nonetheless charming Up All Night, The Office (duh), and, quite surprisingly, Whitney. Yes, that widely hated but, y'know what, actually not that bad these days show will get a second season. Or at least the opportunity for a second season. NBC could always yank the cord if things don't work out in the fall. Anyway, congrats to all involved for having jobs next year. These shows join 30 Rock and Community, which were renewed earlier this week at shortened 13-episode seasons, plus new guys like The New Normal and Save Me.

NBC also announced that they have picked up Next Caller, a "single-camera gender comedy" about "a brash alpha male DJ and his new, plucky, feminist co-host." Playing that brash alpha male radio guy? None other than the great Dane Cook. Yup. :( It's really just what NBC needs to pull itself out of this ratings sewer it's been splashing around in for the last half-decade: Dane Cook doing a butch version of Frasier!

NBC has apparently passed on sitcoms starring Minnie Driver and Scott Bakula, so better luck next time guys. On the bright side, at least now you don't have to endure Dane Cook screaming "Tossed salads and scrambled eggs!" at every work party.

Updated: NBC has canceled the drama Awake, as well as the comedies Bent, Best Friends Forever, and Are You There, Chelsea. None of this is surprising.
