NBA-National Basketball Association roundup

Jan 24 (The Sports Xchange) - Calling the system broken, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban wants the NBA to eliminate fan voting for the All-Star Game. Fan balloting online and on Twitter determined the 10 starters, who were announced Thursday. The 14 reserves, selected by a vote from the coaches in each conference, will be announced Jan. 29. Cuban said the fans' response was "embarrassing" after the top vote-getter for this year's game, Golden State guard Stephen Curry, finished with 1,513,324 votes. "In context of everything, that's no votes," Cuban said. "That's such a small number considering all the different options you have to vote that it's almost embarrassing. "That means basically .01 percent of NBA fans cared enough to vote, and that's saying every fan voted just once. Probably, if you include global, that means .00001 percent of fans thought enough to vote. That just shows nobody cares." All-Star fan balloting increased by 28 percent this year, with more than 25 million votes cast. - - - Forward LaMarcus Aldridge decided to delay surgery on a torn radial collateral ligament in his left thumb, the Trail Blazers announced. The team announced Thursday that Aldridge would undergo surgery and miss 6-8 weeks. The three-time All-Star injured the thumb Monday night against the Sacramento Kings and the tear was revealed in an MRI exam on Thursday. Aldridge leads the Trail Blazers with 23.2 points and 10.2 rebounds per game this season. - - - The Cleveland Cavaliers assigned guard Joe Harris to the Canton Charge of the NBA Development League on Saturday. Harris has played in 35 games (one start) for the Cavs this season, averaging 2.8 points in 11.1 minutes per game. - - - The Los Angeles Clippers re-signed guard Dahntay Jones for another 10 days. Jones, 34, has averaged six minutes in four games since the Clippers called him up from Fort Wayne, Indiana, of the D-League. - - - The New Orleans Pelicans are keeping guard Nate Wolters around a little longer after signing him to a second 10-day contract. Wolters joined the Pelicans on Jan. 14 after starting point guard Jrue Holiday was injured. In five games since then, Wolters averaged 2.6 points, 2.2 rebounds and 11 minutes. (Editing by Gene Cherry)
