The NBA just made a HUGE statement against anti-LGBT laws and we can’t agree more

In more news about basketball leagues speaking out against social injustice, the NBA has announced that they will no longer hold their 2017 All-Star game in North Carolina because of the recent passage of anti-LGBT laws by the state.

The annual game had been scheduled to take place in Charlotte, but the NBA has changed its tune since the passage of HB2 five months ago.

The disgusting bill has ratified numerous discriminatory practices: trans people are outlawed from using the public restroom that best matches their gender identity and North Carolina cities are not allowed to legally protect LGBT residents from discrimination.

The NBA released a statement yesterday explaining why they are pulling the game out of the state:

“While we recognize that the NBA cannot choose the law in every city, state, and country in which we do business, we do not believe we can successfully host our All-Star festivities in Charlotte in the climate created by HB2.”

It’s amazing to see that famous NBA players across the country are supporting the NBA’s decision, like Kevin Durant tweeted yesterday:

Other cities are jumping into the conversation and offering their courts for the All-Star game:

The NBA has said they will reconsider hosting the game in Charlotte if they come to an “appropriate resolution” with the state — the terms of which are unclear in the statement. North Carolina needs to do a lot more than just appease the NBA, and recognize that this isn’t a business issue, but a human rights issue.
