NBA-Assist stands out in James' prolific resurgence

By Steve Ginsburg SAN ANTONIO, June 9 (Reuters) - It's not about scoring, says LeBron James, it's about winning. The planet's best player scored 14 points in the third quarter of the Miami Heat's 98-96 victory over the San Antonio Spurs but decided to take another route in the final period. He scored only eight points but drew enough attention to find Chris Bosh with just over a minute left to make his only assist of the period, perhaps his best play of the night. James sliced through the lane but, with the Spurs all over him, used his remarkable vision to locate Bosh in the corner, sitting in three-point land. Bosh nailed the 23-footer to give the Heat a 95-93 lead with 1:18 to play. Game, set, and match. The Spurs didn't score again until the final buzzer. James, who finished with 35 points and 10 rebounds, says he just tries to "play the game the right way." "However the flow of the game is going, I just try to impose my will in some kind of way, either scoring or rebounding or assisting or defending," he said. "(I) Put myself and my teammates in a position to succeed, and I was happy in the fact that I was able to make some plays to help us get the victory tonight." Sunday's victory was the 13th consecutive playoff victory after a loss. Heat guard Ray Allen found James' toss to Bosh so good he couldn't fault the Spurs for failing to stop it. "For him to attack and keep his head up and his eyes looking ahead to see what his defender was going, it's tough to guard," he said. "He was attacking and he was scoring so (the Spurs) had to contribute two guys to him. "He made a great pass and C.B. hit a great shot." Bosh said he and James have "always played together unselfishly, since we came together." "Just me knowing how LeBron is, you always have to be poised and ready to shoot the basketball," he said. "He's the most unselfish player I've ever played with, and especially with the talent that he has playing the game. "The way he plays the game, he doesn't try to force anything. Even if he is hot, he'll still hit you if you're wide open. "And that's what makes this team special because your best player is willing to sacrifice a shot, a good shot for a great shot. You just have to commend him for that." Bosh missed a three-pointer on a pass from James minutes earlier but the man known as 'The King' did not hesitate to try it again. "C.B. had just missed one, got a great look," said James. "But I drew two and his man left him again, so I went right back to him and he knocked it down. "I've got a lot of confidence in my teammates and they've got a lot of confidence in me. And we live with the results no matter what happens." The Heat's triumph evened the best-of-seven series at 1-1 with the next two games in Miami. (Editing by Amlan Chakraborty)
