Nay Aug Valentine’s food drive

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A big effort to stock up on local food pantries this weekend.

The Scranton Municipal Recreation Authority, also known as SMRA, partnered with the City of Scranton to collect non-perishable food items for distribution through local food pantries.

In the last two days, they’ve collected a little over 32 boxes of food.

Food pantries in the area will each get about five boxes of food to distribute.

One of the organizers says, the food collection is a way to show a little love in these tough times.

“Anytime that anyone sees that a food pantry driver going on just think about someone else you know just a can of soup you know may seem insignificant but it’s very good. if you could just bring one can of soup you know 10 people bring one can of soup then that’s 10 cans of soup that we have to give out,” says Norma Jeffries the organizer of the food drive.

They also hold a pet drive and a baby drive around Mother’s Day.
