NATO member orders $325 million in artillery shells from Germany’s Rheinmetall
A NATO member has ordered $325 million worth of artillery ammunition from Rheinmetall, with deliveries scheduled from 2024 to 2028, the German arms company reported on May 24.

Order includes tens of thousands of artillery shells and several hundred thousand modules of projectile charges. Company did not specify which country it was referring to.
Rheinmetall noted that war in Ukraine has increased demand for ammunition, including artillery.
"New orders once again proof Rheinmetall's leading technological position in development and production of ammunition in Europe,” company said in a statement.

Rheinmetall is a large German defense concern that produces ammunition and military equipment, for Europe and for Ukraine. In October 2023, the concern established a joint venture with Ukrainian defense industry.
On March 26, Rheinmetall received €130 million in financial assistance from European Union to increase ammunition production. Rhainmetall CEO Armin Papperger called for increased military spending on May 3. He believes that Western world is not ready for a conventional war.

In May, Papperger announced supply of artillery ammunition to Ukraine, including 100-kilometer-range shells. He also said that the company plans to increase production of artillery shells to 700,000 in 2024, and to reach 1.1 million in a short term.
