National Weather Service: Two separate EF-1 tornadoes touch down in St. Landry Parish
ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. (KLFY)– The National Weather Service announced two different EF-1 tornadoes touched down in St. Landry Parish.
One tornado has landed north of Washington and another had made ground just north pf Port Barre.
UPDATE: All St. Landry Parish schools to reopen Friday
“We think this area experienced some of the worst damage that we’ve seen,” Doug Cramer with the National Weather Service said. “As a matter of fact, I would venture to say we’ve got tens of thousands of trees that have been damaged across this parish with the squall line.”
There are still thousands of St. Landry Parish residents without power from the storm, majority of them in the Opelousas area. Over 75 trees parish wide were knocked down with around 50 roads closed as well. Parish government confirms a lot of progress has been made since then. Cramer said the damage dealt was from the widespread high speed winds.

“It’s quite possible that we had a 80 plus mile per hour widespread winds across the parish,” Cramer said. “And that’s why we have all of this widespread damage to trees and power lines across the parish.”
