National Weather Service confirms tornado hit Pointe Coupee Parish
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-0 tornado hit Pointe Coupee Parish.
Severe weather including high winds and rain came through the Baton Rouge area on Monday, May 13.
According to NWS New Orleans, survey teams “found evidence of an EF-0 tornado with maximum winds of 85 mph near Frisco, LA.” They said they found straight-line wind damage in “areas all around Fordoche, Lottie, Blanks, Livonia and Erwinville.”
Officials confirmed three tornadoes touched down in Acadiana on Monday too.
Three people were killed as a result of the storms, according to the Louisiana Department of Health. One of the fatalities happened in West Baton Rouge Parish. Kristin Browning along with her unborn baby were killed during the storm.
The severe weather also knocked out power for thousands of customers and forced some schools to close.
