National Weather Service confirms EF-2 tornado in Hot Springs Village

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. – The National Weather Service confirmed Friday that an EF-2 tornado touched down in Hot Springs Village during Thursday night’s storm.

Crews with the NWS reported that the tornado touched down just before 8 p.m.

As storms moved across the state, trees were uprooted and power lines were downed leaving thousands of Arkansas customers without power.

Reported hail sizes ranged from pea-size to baseball-size in multiple areas around central Arkansas. Residents in Maumelle saw heavy rain, leading to intense flooding in some areas.

Thursday night’s rainfall also broke records in several cities. Little Rock recorded 3.59 inches, beating its record of 2.04 inches set in 1982. North Little Rock recorded 2.48 inches, beating its record of 0.77 inches set in 2007. Batesville also set a record of 1.23 inches, breaking the previous record of 0.8 inches set in 2011.
