National Universities Where Accepted Students Usually Enroll
There's nothing like receiving college acceptance letters after months of filling out applications and studying to get a competitive SAT or ACT score. But with these letters comes a new problem: deciding which school to attend.
This choice may be less difficult for students admitted into Harvard University. Of the 2,076 students accepted for fall of 2012, 1,664 enrolled, giving the school a yield of 80.2 percent. The Ivy League school has the highest yield of the 264 ranked National Universities that submitted yield rate data to U.S. News in a spring 2013 survey. National Universities, of which 270 are numerically ranked, are schools that offer a range of undergraduate, master's and Ph.D. programs, and commit to producing groundbreaking research.

In the fall of 2011, Brigham Young University--Provo had the highest yield with 79.7 percent. Its yield increased for 2012 to 80.1 percent, after 5,526 of the 6,895 accepted students enrolled, placing it just behind Harvard.
Other schools with a high yield for fall of 2012 include New York's Yeshiva University, which came in ninth at 65.5 percent, and North Carolina A&T State University, with a 59.3 percent yield that placed it 14th. The 24 schools with a yield rate that exceeded 50 percent accepted an average of 3,770 students and enrolled 2,273 students.
About half as many National Liberal Arts Colleges had yield rates that exceeded 50 percent. Of the 12 that did, on average they accepted 755 students and enrolled 542 students.

Large state schools often had a yield between 30 and 40 percent. University of Michigan--Ann Arbor, for example, enrolled 6,148 students of the 15,551 accepted, giving it a yield of 39.5 percent.
The table below shows the fall 2012 yield for each ranked National University that reported the figure to U.S. News. The rate can be affected by a school's early decision or early action options, as some of those programs bind students to attending if accepted.
