National team players, fans react to the USMNT's World Cup failure

For the first time since 1986, the U.S. men will not be represented at the World Cup.

In an absolute shocker, the U.S. men’s national soccer team was eliminated from World Cup 2018 contention, losing 2-1 to Trinidad and Tobago.

Former national team players were some of the first to react to the news on Twitter.

Taylor Twellman, who earned 30 caps for the USMNT and now serves as an ESPN analyst, went on a scorched-Earth rant following the game.

Jermaine Jones, who played for the U.S. at the 2014 World Cup, spoke out in support of Jurgen Klinsmann, who was replaced as national team head coach by Bruce Arena earlier this year.


Carli Lloyd, who led the U.S. to a Women’s World Cup title in 2015, threw a bit of shade at her male counterparts, but followed it up with a message of support.

Other women’s national team players expressed their devastation at the result.

Fans across the country were equally shocked and disappointed.
