National Park College, South Arkansas College headed to D2 NJCAA men’s tournament

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Two junior colleges in Arkansas have earned a place on the national stage for NJCAA men’s basketball.

The National Park College Nighthawks in Hot Springs and South Arkansas College Stars in El Dorado have been picked to play in the NJCAA Division II tournament next week.

On Tuesday’s selection, National Park College received an at-large invitation to participate in the tournament. Nighthawks head coach Dillon Hargrove said the team is more than deserving of that spot.

“Our guys have shown all year that they are one of the best teams in the nation and are deserving of the at-large bid,” Hargrove said.

On Saturday, South Arkansas College punched its ticket to the tournament with a 94-75 win over St. Louis Community College in the Central Plains District Championship Final.

With that win, this year will also mark the first time a Stars basketball team has advanced to a national tournament in the program’s five-year history.

The Nighthawks will play the Johnson County Cavaliers on Monday, Mar. 18 at 6 p.m. The Stars will play the Hocking College Hawks on the same day at 11 a.m.

Arkansas State fans optimistic after Sun Belt title loss

The tournament will be held at the Mary Miller Center in Danville, Illinois and will be streamed live on NJCAA.org.
