National Journal, Univision News, and ABC News Partner for "Next America" Convention Events Focused on Hispanics and American Politics
National Journal, Univision News and ABC News are partnering to produce two premier events at the Republican and Democratic National Conventions, engaging leaders on the demographic revolution that is remaking the face of America.
The two invitation-only events will feature high-profile guests including Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Congressman Xavier Becerra, as well as some of the most well-respected journalists from each news organization, examining how growth in the Hispanic community and other key demographic trends are dramatically shifting U.S. policy and politics. Additional speakers will be announced prior to the conventions.
Moderators for the events will include National Journal's Ronald Brownstein, Univision News' Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas, and ABC News' Diane Sawyer and George Stephanopoulos.
Univision News and ABC News recently announced a joint venture to create a digital and cable television network to serve, inspire, and empower the U.S. Hispanic community with culturally relevant programming in English. National Journal has recently launched The Next America, a multi-platform program that explores how changing demography shapes the national agenda. Together, all three news organizations will explore what these monumental demographic changes mean for each political party, the country-at-large, and the 2012 races.
"The face of the nation is changing before our eyes," said Ronald Brownstein, National Journal Editorial Director. "Virtually every aspect of American life—the economy, politics, education, healthcare, and social life—will be shaped by this exploding diversification. These convention events will combine the insights of a heavy-hitting group of political leaders, experts, and journalists, to examine what it really means for America's future."
“Today Hispanics account for 16 percent of the total U.S. population, and that number is projected to double by 2050,” said Isaac Lee, president of Univision News. “Univision NEWS is pleased to partner with ABC News and National Journal to convene a group of leaders, experts and journalists to discuss the importance of the fastest growing segment of the U.S. electorate and to further our commitment of informing and empowering the Hispanic community.”
