Officer Pamela Sosa, a background investigator, says the goal is to get a qualified applicant through the background process in two-to-three months and get them into a police academy for training.

The background process consists of an application, a written exam, a physical agility test and an oral interview.

To apply as an entry-level police officer, applicants must have graduated from high school or obtained a G.E.D. certificate and be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident alien who has applied for citizenship. Additional eligibility requirements can be found on the NCPD website at joinncpd.com.
