National Air and Space Museum hosts Solar Eclipse Festival on National Mall

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — One of the biggest celebrations and observations of the solar eclipse on April 8 will take place on the National Mall in D.C.

The National Air and Space Museum is working with other Smithsonian museums, as wall as NASA, NOAA, the U.S. National Science Foundation, and the National Radio Astronomy Observatory to present a huge outdoor event from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. The location of the Solar Eclipse Festival on the National Mall is between 4th and 12th streets NW.

How much of the eclipse will I see? Here’s what to expect in DC, Maryland, and Virginia.

There will be nine stations on the National Mall that will offer a variety of activities. They include making your own portable eclipse model, viewing the arc of the Sun as it moves over the Smithsonian Castle, and playing a game that uses Indigenous languages to describe bodies in the sky.

The National Air and Space Museum encouraged people who were planning to attend to bring their own solar eclipse viewers, noting that the are would be a limited amount of solar eclipse glasses available at the festival.
