Nathan Lane reveals that Harvey Weinstein bullied him at a Hillary Clinton fundraiser

Nathan Lane appeared on Late Night With Seth Meyers Monday night and revealed that Harvey Weinstein once bullied him at a fundraiser for Hillary Clinton. The actor said that in 2000, Weinstein wanted Lane to host a fundraiser for Clinton but said that he would need to prescreen the jokes. Lane said he was fine with that.

About an hour before the show, Lane finally heard from Weinstein, who said that he wanted to cut many of the jokes. Lane refused, saying that it was too late. Weinstein was obviously not happy about this and started screaming at Lane, at one point saying, “I will ruin you!” But Lane, being the funny man he is, responded in the best way possible by saying, “You can’t hurt me — I don’t have a film career.”

Eventually, Clinton persuaded Lane to cut some of the jokes that Weinstein wanted gone. But then another obstacle came up, involving another guest, Cher. This one, although stressful, may have been a blessing in disguise.

Cher was stuck in traffic, and as a result, Lane had to cover for her. He took the opportunity to tell all of the jokes that Weinstein had made him cut.
