NatGeo’s ‘Years of Living Dangerously’ Sneak Peek: Watch David Letterman Travel to India

David Letterman made late night viewers laugh for three decades, but his new TV project is no laughing matter.

The former late night talk show host serves as the correspondent in the Season 2 premiere of the National Geographic Channel’s Years of Living Dangerously. The Emmy-winning documentary series sends celebrities around the world to witness the devastating impacts of climate change, from debilitating droughts to species extinction.

In this exclusive sneak peek at Sunday night’s premiere episode, Letterman travels to India for the first time to learn more about the energy crisis facing the country. How will the second most-populous country deal with inadequate grids, the demands of a booming economy, and the lack of basic electricity for over 300 million of its citizens?

He meets a family with three children, all of whom are studying by the light of one kerosene flame. Their house and village don’t have electricity, and aren’t likely to get it in the near future.

“Before coming here, I never imagined kids having to breathe in toxic kerosene fumes just to do their homework,” Letterman says.

Years of Living Dangerously premieres on Sunday at 8 p.m. on National Geographic Channel, and moves to its regularly scheduled time Wednesdays at 10 p.m. beginning Nov. 2.
