Nashville police make arrest in 19-year-old's fatal Madison shooting

Nashville police arrested a 19-year-old after another teen was killed in a Madison shooting.

Detectives arrested Jaylin Sanford outside an apartment in West Nashville just over 24 hours after Kenneth Buford Jr., also 19, was killed.

Police were called to a field about 3 p.m. Monday off North Gallatin Pike near McKinley Street and found Buford in critical condition. The teen was taken to Skyline Medical Center, where he died, police said.

In a post made on social media, police said they believe Sanford used an automatic pistol in the shooting.

The shooting was caught on video surveillance, according to Sanford's arrest affidavits. Video showed the suspect running toward Buford and a friend and firing several shots, the affidavit said.

Buford was hit several times while running away. His friend fled without injury.

"After the victim has been shot and collapsed onto the ground, the suspect is then observed on the video surveillance retrieving unknown item(s) from the ground near the victim," the affidavit said.

The suspect then fled the scene toward McKinley Street.

The friend identified Sanford as the shooter from a photo lineup, the affidavit said.

Sanford was booked into the Downtown Detention Center around 8 p.m. Tuesday on charges of criminal homicide and attempted criminal homicide. He's being held on $600,000 bond.
