Nashville Fire Department responds to VA hospital

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Nashville Fire Department responded to the Veterans Affairs Medical Center Monday after smoke could be seen coming from the roof.

In a social media post sent out at 3:38 p.m., the fire department said the impacted areas were evacuated and no injuries were reported. The cause was likely a generator that overheated on the roof, according to officials.

Firefighters said the damage was contained to the roof. However, smoke was still being ventilated from the area Monday afternoon.

In the post on X, officials said traffic near the medical center was being impacted by the incident.

A spokesperson for the VA said a portion of the hospital was evacuated due to the smoke, but no patients or staff were injured.

“The hospital is safe to enter, and officials continue to assess damages,” said Public Affairs Officer Hannah McDuffie. “Patients will be contacted as soon as possible should their appointment be impacted.
