‘Nashville’: Avery Makes Juliette Cry With Some News
In the wake of Rayna James’s death, the surviving citizens of Nashville have tried to move on in various ways. For Deacon, it means keeping the lights on at the record label his beloved wife founded. For Scarlett, that means finally sorting out her love life and re-dedicating herself to her music. And for Avery, it means stepping away from the mixing console and hitting the road for the first time in a long time. The musician-turned-music producer is completing his transformation back into a musician again by agreeing to a 20-city tour that will put him back where he wants to be: strumming his guitar in front of a cheering crowd.
Of course, saying yes was the easy part. As you can see in the above clip from tonight’s episode, telling Juliette proves to be a more challenging task than crafting the tour set list. Avery tries to break the news gently, insisting that he didn’t make this choice lightly. “It’s something that’s been building up for a long time now. I can’t put it off anymore.” Having survived a plane crash, a spinal injury and a rocky return to performing, it’s understandable that Juliette is feeling more than a little vulnerable at the thought of being left behind. “I don’t want you to leave,” she says, tearfully, even as Avery remains resolute in his plans for some “me time.” We’ll see how strong his resolve is when baby Cadence starts wailing at the sight of daddy leavin’ home.
