Napa River boat traffic halted by broken Vallejo bridge

(KRON) — Due to mechanical issues, the Mare Island Causeway Bridge in Vallejo is unable to raise and lower itself to permit boat traffic, halting traffic on the Napa River.

Vallejo’s public works team, along with consultants and regional and state experts, said they have identified the issue and are working “expeditiously on repairs,” the City Of Vallejo’s Public Information Officer said in a statement. As of this report, officials estimate repairs to be completed by May 31.

“We faced a decision to keep the bridge either elevated or lowered,” said City Manager Andrew Murray. “Given that the safety of our residents is our top priority, we chose to keep the bridge in the lowered position to ensure our emergency vehicles can pass without delay in the event of an emergency.”

The US Coast guard has also been informed of the temporary issue, Murray said.

For those traveling to BottleRock this weekend, city planners recommend using the San Francisco Bay Ferry and the connector, Vine Transit Bus, both located at the Vallejo Ferry Terminal. Vine Transit services are free for BottleRock attendees and will operate later in the evening to accommodate concert-goers.
