Name of suspect who shot at police in Dinuba released

DINUBA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The suspect who was left with life-threatening injuries after allegedly shooting at Dinuba Police officers on Thursday night has been identified, according to officials.

Officials say the man who allegedly shot at a Dinuba Police officer is 29-year-old Luis Manuel Piceno of the Cutler-Orosi area. He remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, according to the department.

According to the chief of the Dinuba Police Department, Piceno had a warrant for attempted homicide and domestic violence, describing him as having an “extensive criminal history.”

Officers say they responded to a call around 8 p.m. on Thursday near the area of I and Kern Street, regarding a disturbance around the area.

Officials say Piceno was brandishing a gun at a group of people, and he began to shoot at officers, and they returned fire, one of them striking the suspect. Pineno was transported to a local hospital for life-threatening injuries.

One of the officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to the hospital. Officials say the officer has since been released and is expected to make a full recovery.

Pinceno had two warrants out for his arrest, one for domestic violence and one for attempted murder.

The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office is managing the investigation.
