Naloxone kits to be distributed to combat opioid epidemic

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Wright Center has announced they are participating in a state-led initiative to give away free overdose-reversing kits and other harm-reduction supplies.

As stated in the release those who want to receive the naloxone kits and drug-checking strips by visiting The Wright Center. The center is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

“At this phase of the ongoing epidemic, it makes sense for more people to have naloxone kits in the event of an emergency with a family member, friend, coworker, or stranger. You never know when you can save a life,” said Scott Constantini, associate vice president of primary care and recovery services integration at The Wright Center for Community Health.

People can also receive kits and supplies at the Wayne County Drug and Alcohol Commission office in Honesdale, as noted in the release.

“The Wright Center is one of many approved, community-based distribution sites, officially known as “recognized entities,” that will receive the supplies at no cost through the Pennsylvania Overdose Prevention Program (POPP),” as stated by officials.

The release says the opioid epidemic has claimed 14,000 Pennsylvanians in the past three years and naloxone may help those experiencing a near-death experience serve as a “wake-up call” compelling them to seek help and maintain recovery.
