Her career involves tasting delicious food day-to-day, so we've often wondered how Bake Off champion Nadiya Hussain manages to maintain her figure...

And now the former Big Family Cooking Showdown star has revealed that she has adopted extreme measures to avoid unwanted weight gain.

Revealing how she stops herself from piling on the pounds, the 33-year-old told Mail Online last weekend (9 July) that she restricts herself to just one meal a day when she's not working...

'On a day when I'm not working, I only have one meal a day,' she said. 'So I'll drink tea, coffee and have fruit but I'll only have one meal a day.

She continued: 'So I wait for my kids to come home, cook dinner and then I have dinner with them at 5pm.'

'And I don't really need anything after that.'

The celebrity cook – whose new BBC Two series, Nadiya's Family Favourites, starts on Monday (16 July) – also revealed that she maintains her weight through regular exercise.

'And then when I'm at home I try and – at the moment I'm doing 5k – so I'll kind of walk and jog a 5k every single day where I can.'

Nadiya's regime sounds similar to the concept of intermittent fasting that has gained traction in recent years, thanks to the rise of the 5:2 diet, which advocates eating just 500-600 calories, two days per week, for weight loss.

Of course, while we have no idea how many calories Nadiya consumes on the days she eats just one meal, it's worth noting that official guidelines advise adults to eat 1,800 calories a day, while the NHS advises women to consume 1,400 per day if they are trying to lose excess weight.
