Myrtle Beach man accused of distributing antisemitic materials in Florence County

FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A Myrtle Beach man ticketed for littering last summer after authorities saw him throw baggies filled with hate messages out of a car in the Murrells Inlet area is facing similar charges after his arrest Monday in Florence County.

Jamin Christian Fite, 48, faces seven counts of communicating obscene messages and seven counts of littering, according to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office. He is in the Florence County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.

Investigators said Fite “anonymously distributed vulgar, obscene and anti-Semitic material by throwing the material into the yards of multiple” residences on March 5. He also allegedly threw clear, plastic bags with the same materials in multiple driveways in the Rice Planters, Charters, Ebenezer Chase, Hampton Point, Westpoint, Westbrook and Villa Arno subdivisions.

Fite paid a $200 fine for littering after his arrest by Horry County police in July. Police said officers investigating a littering complaint in the Seville Drive area saw someone throw baggies containing paper and pellets out of the window of a 2012 Honda Civic.

When officers pulled the car over at the intersection of Seville Drive and International Club Boulevard, an Horry County police report said an officer saw a black duffel bag that contained “a large quantity of clear plastic baggies w/paper and pellets inside.”

Police later recovered 791 plastic baggies containing pellets and paper from duffel bags, the report said. During the investigation, police also found “that there were numerous baggies spread over miles of the neighborhood.”

South Carolina law says it is “unlawful for a person to anonymously write, print, telephone, transmit a digital electronic file, or by other manner or means communicate, send or deliver to another person within the State, without that person’s consent, any obscene, profane, indecent, vulgar, suggestive, or immoral message.”

Fite could be fined and sentenced to up to three years in prison if he is found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, the sheriff’s office said.
