Muskegon Community College closed due to threat

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) — Muskegon Community College will be closed Wednesday due to a threat.

The community college posted on Facebook that all face-to-face classes were canceled and all buildings were closed on Wednesday. However, online classes will still take place.

On its website, MCC said it was notified of the threat Tuesday night. Administrators decided to close the campus out of an abundance of caution.

“Late last night there was a threat posted to social media from an individual,” MCC President John Selmon wrote Wednesday in a letter to the community. “While the threat was not a direct threat to the college, we closed our main campus, the Sturrus Technology Center, and the MCC Ottawa Center for today.”

Police investigated. The Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office told MCC that “there was no longer an immediate threat,” according to Selmon.

Administrators are meeting Wednesday morning to make plans to reopen the college, Selmon wrote, adding that safety is their top priority.

The community college said updates will be posted to its website as they become available.
