Woman's club elects new officers

The Murrysville Woman's Club elected its 2023-24 officers during a scholarship luncheon held at the Greensburg Country Club.

New officers are President Jan Bollinger, First Vice President Barb Breitenstein, Second Vice President Beverly Bella, Secretary Bonnie Sheridan, Treasurer Kathy Valkovich and Financial Secretary Donna Fontana.

'Pioneer for a Day'

The Murrysville Historical Preservation Society and Murrysville Recreation Department will host a "Pioneer for a Day" program at the Sampson Clark Toll House on West Pike Street.

It will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 11, and is intended for children ages 8 to 12.

The program will touch on cooking methods, herbal medicine, weaving, candle making, gunsmithing and more, including a class in the 1800s replica schoolhouse.

The cost is $50 per child.

Upcoming Delmont library programs

The Delmont Public Library will host the following July programs. For a complete program listing, see DelmontLibrary.org.

—July 10: Delmont Diggers program with a guest speaker from Westmoreland Cleanways discussing how to care for and maintain a garden. It will be at 5:30 p.m. and is for children ages 2 to 12.

—July 11: Read Around the World — Poland, will take place at 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. with Murrysville author and Polish native Klaudyna Grudowski. It will include a Polish story and Polish food.

—July 13: STEM Thursday, will take place at 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. with a program exploring microbes. Children will use microscopes to explore the invisible world all around us. It is for children ages 4 to 12.

—July 15: Painting with Miss Judy, will take place at 10 a.m. and noon, for children ages 4 to 12.

—July 15: Delmont Community Band concert, will take place at 6 p.m. on the library's porch. Bring blankets and lawn chairs to sit and enjoy the music.

Farmers market

The Murrysville Farmers Market will be open from 3-7 p.m. Thursdays through Sept. 28.

The market is in front of Murrysville Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 at 3235 Sardis Road. This year is the market's 10th anniversary season.

Delmont Daze seeks volunteers

An organizing meeting for the 2023 Delmont Daze celebration will be at 9:30 a.m. July 12 at the borough building, 77 Greensburg Street.

Mayor Alyce Urban is seeking volunteers to help coordinate and run the annual one-day community festival, which will be Aug. 5. Anyone interested in volunteering is invited to attend.

Cheer camp

The Franklin Regional Intermediate School will host a mini cheer camp July 5-6 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., for students entering kindergarten through sixth grade.

Activities will includes instruction from Franklin Regional coaching staff and cheerleaders on motions, cheers, chants and a dance, with a parent showcase on the last day. Participants will be grouped by age. Register online at rb.gy/tsgyv

Participants must bring a water bottle and wear tennis shoes and athletic apparel. The cost is $100.
