Around 11:17 p.m. March 19, Austin Police officers responded to a report of a shooting at the Fort Branch at Truman’s Landing Apartments on Techni Center Drive. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a man in his 40s with trauma to his body, according to police.

The warrant revealed Navarrette and the man were roommates. The warrant said Navarrette shot and killed his roommate over an argument.

On Wednesday, the Austin Police Department identified the roommate as Santos Gonzales, 40.

The argument happened over a news article regarding a shooting near a school in Lockhart, according to court documents.

In 2019, Lockhart Police sent out a photo of Navarrette in connection to the investigation of the shooting of a 15-year-old. At the time, police said he was wanted on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to witnesses, they said Navarrette was known by a couple of different names, including the name “Miguel,” the warrant said.

Navarrette remained in the Travis County Jail Tuesday.
