Munford teen shot in vehicle

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Munford Police are investigating after a teen was shot in a vehicle Friday.

Police responded to the scene on Wordon Way and Munford Avenue at 8:30 a.m. Friday. Officers reportedly found a 16-year-old boy lying beside the road with a gunshot wound to his thigh.

The teen was rushed to Regional One Hospital and treated for his injuries. Police say the teen did not cooperate with detectives and would not tell them who he was or how he was shot.

Munford Police say detectives learned that several students at Munford High had information on the shooting. Investigators took the students to the police department and interviewed them.

According to Munford Police, detectives learned that a group of teenagers were in a vehicle on Wordon Way. The group reportedly had a gun.

Police say the gun went off, striking one of the teens in the groin.

“Officers responded quickly and gathered needed information to be able to piece this together,” Munford Police Chief Randal Baskin said in a statement. “I wish the juvenile a full recovery from his wound.  We will continue to work this case until all questions are answered.”
