More than a dozen tornadoes confirmed from Wednesday’s storms

(WHNT) — Severe storms on May 8 and May 9 left several communities with damage. As of May 14, more than a dozen tornadoes have been confirmed by the National Weather Service office in Huntsville.

So far, 16 tornadoes have been confirmed across multiple communities in the Tennessee Valley. Two EF-3s, one EF-2, ten EF-1s, and three EF-0s occurred.

Henagar – EF-3

The EF-3 Henagar tornado touched down south of Morris Mill ripped through Elliott Crossroads, and continued on toward New Home, before lifting near Highway 117. The tornado had an estimated peak wind speed of 140 mph, a damage path length of 12.34 miles, and a maximum width of 880 yards.

Brigadoon – EF-3

An EF-3 tornado struck the Brigadoon community in Limestone County. The tornado had an estimated peak wind speed of 136 mph, a damage path length of 2.22 miles, and a maximum width of 0.13 miles.

Monte Sano Tornado – EF2

An EF-2 tornado left behind damage from the Five Points area in Huntsville out toward Monte Sano and the McMullen Cove community. The tornado had an estimated peak wind speed of 122 mph, a damage path length of 9.75 miles, and a maximum width of 850 yards.

Henagar – EF-1

Another EF-1 tornado tore through the Brooks Crossroads community of Henagar. The tornado had an estimated peak wind speed of 107 mph, a damage path length of 1.96 miles, and a maximum width of 275 yards.

Lincoln County – EF-1

An EF-1 tornado moved through the Poorhouse Hollow north of Ardmore in Lincoln County. The tornado had an estimated peak wind speed of 105 mph, a damage path length of 6.22 miles, and a maximum width of 160 yards.

Madison – EF-0

An EF-0 tornado touched down near Rainbow Mountian in Madison. The tornado had an estimated peak wind speed of 85 mph, a damage path length of 1.7 miles, and a maximum width of 95 yards.

Scottsboro – EF-0

An EF-0 tornado moved through Scottsboro in Jackson County. The tornado had an estimated peak wind speed of 85 mph, a damage path length of 2.09 miles, and a maximum width of 440 yards.

Elkmont – EF-1

An EF-1 tornado moved through Elkmont in Limestone County. The tornado had an estimated peak wind speed of 105 mph, a damage path length of 3.47 miles, and a maximum width of 225 yards.

Blossomwood – EF1

A separate tornado occurred just south of Monte Sano which is being called the “Blossomwood Tornado.” This tornado was rated EF1 with winds of 100 mph. There were snapped tree limbs and uprooted trees along the path.

Lim Rock – Woodville, Jackson County – EF0

A tornado also went through Jackson County west of Lim Rock. This tornado was rated an EF0 with a path width of 285 yards.

Princeton, Jackson County – EF1

The tornado that moved through northwest of Skyline and northeast of Princeton in Jackson County was rated EF1 with winds of 104 mph. Numerous hardwood trees were uprooted and several pine trees were snapped.

South Hytop, Jackson County – EF1

The tornado that occurred south of Hytop in Jackson County was rated EF1 with winds of 107 mph. This tornado snapped trees, one of which fell on a home and caused damage to the roof.

Near Fayetteville, Lincoln County – EF1

A tornado occurred north of New Hope and southeast of Fayetteville, in Tennessee. This tornado was rated an EF1 with winds of 105 mph. Trees were uprooted and around 75 percent of a roof was removed from a two-person dwelling.

Hopper Road (Lincoln County) – EF1

Damage assessments in Lincoln County also confirmed an EF1 tornado with 95 mph winds 10 miles south, southwest of Petersburg. The tornado snapped and uprooted numerous trees. Two barn structures were heavily damaged off of Gunter Hollow Road.

SW Flintville Tornado, Lincoln County – EF1

This tornado moved through Lincoln County early Thursday morning and produced EF1 damage along its path. Numerous trees were snapped or uprooted. Tree damage was noted along George Road and the last recorded damage was near the AL/TN line southwest of Elora, TN.

NE Flintville Tornado, Lincoln County – EF1

A tornado also occurred northeast of Flintville, with a damage path that extended into Franklin County in Tennessee. This tornado tracked east across Flintville School Road and Terry Dunavan Road, producing tree damage. A pole barn was destroyed along Whites Gap Road.
