Multiple ‘significantly damaged’ trees to be removed at Davis park

(FOX40.COM) — The Davis Police Department said multiple trees at a park will have to be removed due to significant damage.

Over the last several months, police said officers and the Davis Parks Department received complaints about “large amounts” of bark missing from numerous trees at Playfields Park.

The park includes a children’s play area, batting cages and athletic fields for soccer and baseball.

During an investigation, police said witnesses reported seeing an individual with an off-leash dog “attacking, chewing and gnawing” on the trees. Photos shared by police show a dog the department believes is attacking a tree at the park.

The photos also show a woman is who believed to be responsible for the dog, police said.

Anyone who has information regarding the investigation is urged to contact Davis Police at 530-747-5400 or by email at policeweb@cityofdavis.org.
