Multiple people injured after falling from border wall in San Diego

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Multiple people reportedly fell from a border wall in San Diego Saturday, according to an official with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department (SDFD).

Crews were requested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) shortly before 1 a.m. The incident took place in the area of Monument Road and Hollister Street, which is located near Smuggler’s Gulch and the Tijuana River Valley.

SDFD said crews assessed the injuries of eight people. Two of them were transported to UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest, another was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital, and the rest were transported to Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center.

The nature and seriousness of their injuries were not immediately released, neither were their ages and genders. The home country of these individuals is also not known at this time.

SDFD said CBP will be handling the investigation into the border wall incident. FOX 5 has reached out to CBP for comment on the matter and is awaiting their response.
