Multimillion-dollar construction project to impact traffic for the Howard-Suamico community

HOWARD-SUAMICO, Wis. (WFRV) – A construction project along one of Brown County’s busiest streets is going to have a major impact on traffic flow.

More than 15,000 people drive down Lineville Road, which divides Howard and Suamico every day. The Brown County Highway Department is making traffic flow much easier by creating four lanes (two lanes on each side) on the road, and adding bike lanes.

Operations Manager for the department Michael Piacenti says, “Anybody that’s driven on Lineville, especially between the hours of 3 and 6, know how backed up it can be. With the four lanes, it’ll relieve a lot of that congestion.”

The $9.5 million project spans from the roundabouts off I-41 to the Belmont roundabout at the end of the street. Drivers like Joan Riedel think the expansion is a great idea.

“I think it would be nice, especially down this way, it seems like it is crowded trying to get in and out of stores and things like that,” Reidel says,

Construction will happen in four phases and take two years to complete. For the several businesses along Lineville, there will notice a difference in traffic, but hopefully should not have any negative consequences.

Piacenti says, “There will be some traffic impacts, but if they follow the detour, there’s going to be blue signs pointing people on how to get to businesses along the detour route, follow those and they shouldn’t have a problem.”

In fact, Piacenti also says once the project is complete, it will have a positive impact on the community.

“I think there are times maybe people even avoid the area because of the traffic. If you relieve the traffic because of the expansion of the road, it could bring more people to the Lineville area,” he says.

Construction starts on Monday, March 25. For a full timeline and updates about the project, click here.
