1 critically injured in crash that closed portion of I-40 near Nashville International Airport

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 were closed for hours Tuesday morning as crews worked to clear a crash near the Nashville International Airport.

According to the TDOT Smartway Map, the crash happened just after 11 p.m. on Monday, April 29 in the eastbound lanes of I-40 near Donelson Pike.

The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) told News 2 that three vehicles were involved and at least one person was critically injured.

On Tuesday morning, the eastbound lanes remained closed as extensive cleanup efforts continued. However, around 4:30 a.m., all lanes of travel reopened.

It remains unknown what led to the crash. No other information was immediately released.
