Multi-vehicle crash on I-264 in Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A multi-vehicle crash near Witchduck Road in Virginia Beach closed three eastbound lanes of Interstate 264 as well as the right shoulder earlier Friday afternoon, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The crash was located on eastbound I-264 at mile marker 15.2, and VDOT said traffic backups were about 2.5 miles as of 3:30 p.m.

There was no immediate word on whether there were any injuries.

Traffic cameras indicate that traffic is no longer backed up in the area.

U.S. federal regulators have requested more information from Zoox, Amazon’s self-driving unit, as part of an investigation into rear-end crash risks posed by unexpected braking. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened a preliminary investigation into Zoox on May 10 after it received two reports of Zoox vehicles unexpectedly braking, leading to rear-end collisions with motorcyclists that resulted in minor injuries. Live Nation confirmed the data breach in a filing with government regulators late on Friday after the markets closed.
