Mulcair calls Tories dishonest and bad managers in speech to Ontario NDP
TORONTO - NDP Leader Tom Mulcair accuses the Harper Conservatives of playing Canadians for fools, and vows to spell out the Tories' shortcomings to voters before the next election.
Mulcair launched a blistering attack on the Conservatives during a speech to Ontario New Democrats at a party convention in Hamilton.
He accused Prime Minister Harper of putting Canadians at risk by cutting civil servants such as food inspectors, and said the Tories tried to claim changes to Old Age Security didn't affect pensions.
The Opposition leader says the fact the Tories play with words like that shows they are dishonest.
Mulcair said the NDP "would start doing to (Harper) what he's always done to us" by launching a campaign to discredit the Tories' reputation as good managers well in advance of the next election campaign.
He blasted the Conservatives for taking $50 billion out of the Employment Insurance Fund and for cutting health transfers to the provinces by $31 billion.
On more personal issues, Mulcair confirmed he wants to be known as Tom in English and Thomas in French, and he will be keeping the beard.
