Mugg and Bopps in Pinckney open, cleaning after wind topples canopy

PINCKNEY — A gas station in downtown Pinckney has a mess to clean up, after high winds toppled the canopy over its fuel pumps.

While the convenience store and Subway sandwich shop at Mugg and Bopps, 211 E. Main St./M-36, remain open, it could be days before customers can fuel up. The canopy tipped over toward Main Street. The convenience store wasn't damaged and no one was hurt.

Gas station employees referred The Daily to their corporate office for comment, but store manager David Roberts gave locals an update on social media Sunday.

"As you all know, we had our canopy above our gas pumps come down due to the supports giving out," Roberts wrote. He thanked the community for their support.

"We are so sorry about the inconvenience to everyone," he wrote. "We are hoping to have it all cleared away by Tuesday afternoon and 'hopefully' be up and selling fuel again by no later than Wednesday."

Parking is temporarily available at the store's side entrance.

National Weather Service meteorologist Sara Schultz said the organization didn't receive any major storm reports out of Livingston County on Friday.

Schultz said "straight-line winds" can cause the type of damage Mugg and Bopps saw.

"Winds of 45-50 miles per hour are able to do that," she said. "It doesn’t take much."

A message seeking comment was left with local police.
