Mudslide-ridden Malibu Canyon Road to close ahead of weekend storms

In an effort to get ahead of more potentially dangerous mudslides amid a stormy forecast, Los Angeles County Public Works announced a plan to close Malibu Canyon Road for the weekend.

The closure, which runs from 7 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday, affects a nearly five-mile stretch of the crucial Malibu roadway between Pacific Coast Highway and Piuma Road. The closure will affect access to Pepperdine University.

The planned closure comes just days after the end of an unplanned one. Part of the road was closed for nearly a week after a massive mudslide that resulted from recent storms.
