How much of Ohio State football's 2022 roster is returning for the 2023 season?

In terms of returning production for the 2023 college football season, Ohio State is in the middle of the pack.

Per ESPN's Bill Connelly, Ohio State is ranked No. 48 in returning production across college football with 67% of the team returning in the fall, sharing the percentage with Georgia Tech and Boise State.

Ohio State's returning percentage is lower than six Big Ten teams: Michigan, Rutgers, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Indiana and Michigan State

Looking deeper, Connelly has the Buckeyes returning 77% of his defense next season, 20th best in the sport with players like linebacker Tommy Eichenberg choosing to return with incoming third-year players like cornerback Denzel Burke and defensive end J.T. Tuimoloau.

However, with losses like quarterback C.J. Stroud, wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and offensive linemen like Paris Johnson Jr., Dawand Jones and Luke Wypler, Ohio State will bring back only 57% of its players on offense: ranked No. 97 in the sport.

Bill Connelly: Michigan to bring experience in 2023

According to Connelly, Ohio State's matchup with Michigan could be a difficult one again in 2023.

The Wolverines are fifth in returning production, bringing back 81% of the 2022 roster — 84% of the offense and 78% of the defense — including players like quarterback J.J. McCarthy, running back Blake Corum and defensive back Mike Sainristil: one of nine defensive players with 400-plus snaps last season.

"Both Ohio State and Penn State enter 2023 with hopes of preventing a third straight Big Ten title for Michigan," Connelly wrote, "but they'll have to clear a really high bar."
