Mt. Zion Superintendent awarded 2024 Superintendent of Distinction

MOUNT ZION, Ill. (WCIA) — A Central Illinois educator is being recognized for his outstanding work.

Dr. Travis Roundcount, the superintendent of the Mount Zion school district, has been named the 2024 Superintendent of Distinction.

The award comes from his colleagues in the Abe Lincoln Region of the Illinois Association of School Administrators (IASA), based on Roundcount’s commitment, dedication and leadership. Several Central Illinois counties make up the region, including Menard, Logan, DeWitt, Piatt, Macon, Sangamon, Christian, Shelby, and Moultrie counties.

“It is an honor to stand out among distinguished educators in your region and be selected for this honor,” said IASA Executive Director Dr. Brent Clark in a news release. “I applaud Dr. Roundcount for everything he’s done to enhance the learning environment for students and propel his district forward. His leadership has been a difference maker in the Mt. Zion community.”

Roundcount has been an educator for 27 years and the superintendent of Mount Zion schools for 13 years. He was selected for the Superintendent of Distinction award for his many accomplishments, including but not limited to: providing a social worker and more special education staff and services to every school, increasing technology and security features, and upgrading a myriad of school facilities and amenities.

“We continue to have people moving to Mt. Zion because families value the education our teachers provide,” Roundcount said. “We are in the lowest tier in terms of funding per student in the region and the state. Despite the lack of funding, we are proud to continually provide the best educational opportunities on a balanced budget.”
