Mt. Juliet traffic stop results in arrest of Nashville man out on bond for involvement in 2022 murder

MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WKRN) — A traffic stop in Mt. Juliet resulted in the arrest of a Nashville man who was out on bond following a triple shooting that left one person dead and two injured in 2022.

The Mt. Juliet Police Department said officers pulled a vehicle over on Mt. Juliet Road near Providence and discovered the Nashville man in the vehicle had a handgun with him, despite being a convicted felon with a previous robbery charge.

Further investigation revealed the man was out on bond for his involvement in a Nashville triple shooting and murder that happened in September 2022. Police also found marijuana in the vehicle, according to investigators.

Mt. Juliet officials told News 2 the 20-year-old man was identified as Jaylen Floyd. Based on court records, though, Floyd is actually 21.

News 2 previously reported that Floyd was charged in connection with a deadly shooting from Sept. 9, 2022 in the parking lot of a taco restaurant in South Nashville.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, surveillance video captured a black Infiniti sedan and a black Nissan Rogue arriving in the parking lot of Oscar’s Taco Shop and parking next to each other. The video showed a woman exiting the Rogue and entering the back seat of the Infiniti. That’s when then-19-year-old Dyquan Poole and then-17-year-old Omarian Arrington reportedly got out of the Rogue and started shooting at the Infiniti.

The woman — identified as 19-year-old Destinee Jnobaptiste — was killed during the gunfire. Meanwhile, authorities said the two occupants of the Infiniti, a 21-year-old and 19-year-old, were critically wounded.

The Rogue left the scene after the shooting, but it got wedged between two trucks at the intersection of Fesslers Lane and Lebanon Pike, so four people in the Rogue — including Poole and Arrington — ran off, according to officials. However, they were caught shortly afterward and interviewed by investigators.

As News 2 previously reported, Floyd, who was 19 at the time of the shooting, was charged with evidence tampering after he fled from the Rogue armed with a gun, which was later recovered. Court records show he has a hearing set for Sept. 18.

Meanwhile, Metro police said Poole and Arrington were charged with criminal homicide and two counts of attempted criminal homicide. Poole is set to appear in court on Sept. 4 for multiple charges, including murder, but Arrington’s name does not show up in the Davidson County Criminal Court Clerk database.
