MSP: Drugs smuggled into Coldwater prison, 3 arrested

COLDWATER, Mich. (WOOD) — Three people have been arrested and two were charged for smuggling drugs into a Coldwater prison through the mail, police say.

In May 2023, a 38-year-old prisoner named Brandon Head received a book at Lakeland Correctional Facility. Upon inspection, drugs were found hidden inside the book, according to Michigan State Police. It’s unclear what type of drugs they were.

The investigation led detectives to 38-year-old Antwuan Jefferson, who was on parole in the Detroit area, and his 37-year-old sister, also from Detroit.

Both Head and Jefferson were arrested and charged. Jefferson’s sister was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Branch County Jail but has not yet been charged. Police will not release her name until after she is.
